In designing and making custom component racks for customers I've had the occasion to design and make media storage solutions as well, some integrated with the shelving system, some standalone,

Of course, if you go all digital, the whole physical storage thing goes away as an issue. But I don't know that I will ever not have physical media on hand. I like to read the liner notes too much: who wrote this, who played on it, who produced it? And I like to physically browse for something to listen to from my collections. There is an element of surprise or...something, when you see the title that you know you want to listen to but didn't know it until you saw it because...'I haven't heard this in awhile'.

I have had my entire music collection digitized and connected to my system for almost 10 years now and I can click to a specific title from 10,000's quickly if I know what I'm looking for. That is not the same as 'looking for something to listen to' - not even close. One is a practical action and the other an emotional experience in line with and part of the enjoyment of listening to music. So, I'm always going to have CDs, SACDs, concert DVDs, and LPs... and I need to put them somewhere.

Here are some of the standalone storage solutions i've done. Shelves, racks, trays, even a fancy version of the venerable 'milk crate' (for those old enough to remember the 'go to' for LP storage and transport...)

For reference, at current wood prices the 4-shelf LP storage shelf system as shown in the first and second pic (maple shelves with walnut legs) costs $792 plus shipping. The 48" tall walnut CD carousel (pics 3, 4, & 5) costs $866.

So, if you've got a need and want to throw around some ideas, let's talk.
