Martin Logan ReQuest Speakers (PAIR)
MSRP $4,800 in 2000 — $8,400 in 2022 dollars
Very good condition: minor cosmetic imperfections commensurate with their age.
Panels replaced 1 year ago.

Panels on electrostatic speakers last for 14-18 years according to their environment.

We were the 2nd owners - they were bought in 2010, and we re-paneled them last year. There is only one person on earth who makes ML panels to OEM specs. We put in an order in 2020, and they were delivered in 2021. The cost for the panels, with shipping: $2,250. Yes, you read that right.

After 14-18 years the panels start to lose their 'sparkle' which effectively 'dampens' the mids a little and the highs even more, this is especially noticeable in high-humidity environments. Since these were just re-paneled, they are good for another decade and a half.

Be careful in buying a pair of Martin Logans which are more than 10 years old and have not been re-paneled.

The panels provide the mids and highs, they are complemented by a dynamic bass driver for the low end.
Because the panels require high voltage to function, you not only wire these into your amp, but also plug them into the wall.

These have oak 'rails' on either side. I put black gaffers tape over the rails which covers the oak COMPLETELY on the fronts, but you can see a very narrow strip of oak on the sides; see pix.
Hairline cracks in a 1-2 of the plastic binding post wire nuts (too small to photograph). Minor marks and scuffs.

If your wife doesn't care for big speakers, these are not for you.

QUOTES FROM REVIEWS
The transparency (the reason why you buy this type of loudspeaker) was jaw dropping with some recordings. There was an ethereal quality to the human voice that would make you sit up and pay attention to every little detail. The soundstage was also quite wide and deep in my space and the reQuest delivered music with scale and presence like few other speakers...

...When it comes to reproducing vocals no other speaker can match it without spending at least 20k, but at that point I'll probably need to spend that much in electronics upgrades....

...Details I have never heard before in music I have listened for 40 years. Really is that much of a difference...

...Talk about clarity. It's hard to believe there's that much data in the sound signal that you've never heard before. That's all I could think of when I listened to these: how is there so much information to be revealed? If you have the money, you will not be disappointed in these...
