MSB’s M204 is the 4th generation of this great amplifier. Although the tower design is striking when seen in person the design intention was less of a visual statement and more of an engineering refinement. What shape would give the maximum heatsink, the shortest possible signal and power paths, and take up the least floor space? The internal circuitry is built in a cube rather than a flat circuit board allowing the shortest possible signal and power paths. Although this 200 watt amp is class A it does not feel “class A hot" to the touch because of the huge number of heat sinks and 360 degree open vertical cooling. It is a true balanced design input to output Maybe the biggest feature of this amp is zero negative feedback. Other amp designs use “minimal” negative feedback or “local instead of global” negative feedback. MSB was able to achieve zero negative feedback that is normally reserved for very low watt amps. The M204 has zero negative feedback at 200 watts doubling into 4 ohms at 400 watts. Zero negative feedback also allows for much simpler circuitry with a minimum number of parts in the signal path. The result of all this is a clarity in the mids and highs that is seldom heard from solid state amps. One can stop thinking of amp “flavors” and enjoy an amp that has no sound of it’s own.
