My living room system is built to my wife's preference of a pair of 1980s KEFs. She likes that they are on the warm side, I like that they are very efficient. They sound delightful and image like crazy with my Marantz 8b and also with the Schiit Aegir that I sometimes swap in. Since I have a studio with another system I accept compromises here—but the sound is hardly a compromise given the minimal system cost.
A basic downward-firing sub that I run below 50hz. Integrates the sound and soundstage nicely
Marantz 8b
Vintage, has been repaired as needed. 35 WPC EL 34 with some tube substitutions.
Schiit Audio SYS
The amp doesn't need any gain, so this serves as a passive preamp with a volume control. It also let's me plug a dragonfly black DAC from my computer into the system as an alternative to the Zen Stream which I sometimes move to my other system.
