Description

Today I found this at estate/demo sale.

As I walked in there was lots of junk, boxes furniture, clothes etc. When I went into the basement I saw lots of LPs ...... and then this cabinet. On top the cabinet were books, vases and cardboard boxes of misc junk. Cleared the crap and opened the lid on the cabinet. When I lifted the lid I could not believe what I saw.

Garrard 301, Sme 3012 and a bunch of quad gear. Bought it on the spot.

I will need help identifying some of the pieces. Not much on the net. Any body know what these pieces are ?

I will remove the back of the cabinet to see if there are markings on the components. I am sure that the amp is inside of the unit.

Plugged the ac cord in and everything works.

Now to start cleaning and removing the dust.

Sold the treasure chest as it was taking up too much room and I just never got around to working on it.
Did keep the Garrard 301 along with the SME 3012 Version I.
New owner was overjoyed, sold it on CL.

Hey Guys

Thanks Lonestarsouth, yes indeed I will need lots of luck, haven't found one yet.

Tef8568 sounds like you had a great find as well. It's so thrilling bringing your find home, it's a great feeling.

"Treasure Chest" is on hold work wise as I have way too much on the go.
But it's in a save place waiting for attention.
Till then it will get dusty...........

Take care,

rugyboogie

So pretty - that is an awesome find!

Very cool, very beautiful. I found an old hifi cabinet system similar to yours on the street curb in the neighborhood down the road from us a few years ago. I put what part of it that I could in the trunk of my wife's Honda Civic and held the rest as I walked behind her as she drove very slowly back home for about a half mile. Yes, really. Love. haha It was an Admiral brand with a tubed amplifier using EL84's and horn drivers with 8" woofers. It still worked. It was fun to take out the amp and make a new little system with it. Yours is a treasure to say the least. The cabinet alone is gorgeous. Enjoy it.

Good luck with the second QUAD II. Maybe you must look for a set and flog the loner.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the advise and the cleaning tips.
Now that the weather is changing it's time to listen to music.
Haven't listened in almost 3 months.
Did buy a pair of Quad ESL 57. The fellow that I bought them from had three pairs along with a pair of ESL 63's. Also bought two old Thorens Idler drives from him as well.
Now the quest to find a second Quad amp.

I also restore vintage gear and had great success with turps. It evaporates completely leaving the items spot-less.

Off course one must test it on a hidden spot to check it it is safe.

lonestarsouth

Lonestarsouth,
I did research and found that vinegar is the safest poduct for vintage gear. I tried it on an old Pioneer reciever and it works wonders w/o damaging the the silk screening. It is gentle and safe.

"other than vinegar to clean the electronic faceplates."

Vinegar? Yuk!! Use good turpentine...

lonestarsouth

Treasure Chest indeed!

mapman

Yes, Quad 57s Lonestarsouth.

Rugyboogie, Clean the cabinet w/ Old English furniture polish for natural wood. Don't use anything other than vinegar to clean the electronic faceplates. You have a prize stereo.

mjcmt

What other speakers than the QUAD 57 ESLs??

lonestarsouth

Now to find speakers from the same era to compliment the system. Then set it up in a library or study and enjoy music w/ a nice vintage glass of wine.

rugyboogie

Wow. Awesome. Stiltskin is right. Sounds like an evening (or several) on the town for your wife. Personally, I think the whole idea of the console is pretty cool.

Thanks Tvad.

Serial number on the Garrard is # 3286 along with a black CSA stamp.
I was watching ebay UK for the last two weeks looking for a Thorens 124 MKII and also on the Garrard 301.
My bids were not fast enough to win the bids. But guess what?
My wife started looking on Craigstist for estate/garage sales in our neck of the woods.
We went to two places and hit the jackpot on number three.
I owe my wife big time........

rugyboogie

Very cool. Congratulations.
