Description

This is my system as it stands.

My amps are way, way too much power for my speakers and room, so I think either the amps or the speakers will be making an exit soon. I'm seriously thinking about some meadowlarks with the prices as low as they've fallen.

Components Toggle details

    • Systemdek IIX
With the stock Systemdek tonearm and a Clearaudio Aurum Wood, this table makes music that is alive, involving and harmonically and rhythmically right.
    • Clearaudio Aurum Wood Classics
It doesn't seem to have the (artificially) huge soundstage of my Denon DL-160, but even with only a few hours on it, it seems to be a detailed, competent cartridge. Rhythmically proficient.
    • Sony scd-ce595
    Sacd/Cd player, as yet unmodified.
    • Bottlehead Foreplay III
My first kit project, and it sounds great! I modded it for lower gain.
    • Bottlehead Seduction
Stock, but I've built the anticipation upgrade. I'll get around to installing it. . .
    • Quicksilver KT-88
Now that I have these repaired and retubed, they're sounding great.
    • Axiom Audio m22ti
The best $400 speakers I have ever heard. They won't reall do much below the high 40s in my room, but they're really quite good in the midrange and treble. What bass is present is also tight and clean. I do sometimes miss the sound of the Vandersteens I grew up with, but not often.

I just bought a Sony NS999ES floor model from Tweetel

Those M22s are great speakers. And fantastic with a sub. Good luck!

System edited: I finally replaced my Denon DL-160 cart. The clearaudio I got looks like it'll suit my table/arm just fine with a bit more break in. I did have a hum issue, but I ran a second wire from the ground terminal at my receiver to the metal underside of my table and that seems to have quieted it a bit.

System edited: Just added the quicksilver monos. Only one at a time can be played, because I just don't have enough good tubes. I'm rocking in mono.

So I haven't really been using the 'Pod as much, but it's still ranking second among my source components. The only issue I have is that it sometimes audibly freezes mid-track, because of buffering issues. This has been rare for me, however.

System edited: Added: Apple iPod. Don't laugh, it sounds better thn you'd think with a lossless format.

For the cartridge, try a Goldring 1042 or a Shure V15xmr.

As for the digital, good luck trying to match that analog sound quality with any digital setup.
