Description

This system is a work in progress. We just moved into our house several months ago and have been piecing together this system. There are many components which we do not yet already have installed but are in the process of purchasing.

We are first working on digital stereo playback and then will be working on digital video playback. After that we are going to focus on analog playback.

My wife and I have enjoyed selecting the components together and making it all work. The sound of the Magnepans coupled with the Final Sound subwoofer is simply heavenly.

The Pioneer DVD-V7400 is a magnificent CD transport. We have rediscovered many well known CDs and this player has uncovered a veil which was previously thrown over all CDs played. It's the best kept secret in audio and you can pick these things up for a steal of a price.

    • Pioneer DVD-V7400
This is a professional/industrial DVD Player which we use as a transport. This is a heavy duty machine with a rock solid transport assembly designed to go 37,000 hours before failure. It makes all other transports look like a toy in comparison. The sound from this transport is simply magical. I found myself hearing parts of music that was veiled using other transports.
    • Marantz UD5005
The UD5005 is a Blu Ray player that does it all. In our system we only use it for Bly Rays and DVDs though it makes for being an excellent CD player as well.
    • Panasonic SV-3700
This Digital Audio Tape recorder is used to play back tapes I made many years ago. It is a solid professional unit with excellent sound quality.
    • Fosgate Audionics FAP-T1
This fantastic preamp does a great job of not only multi-channel but stereo as well.
    • Adcom GFA-535L
This amplifier drives the architectural audio in our bedroom and guest room.
    • Adcom GFA-6000
Solid state preamp which does a beautiful job of driving unusual low-impedance loads with ease.
    • Magnepan MMG-W
Custom made to order from Magnepan. Fantastic planar speakers with beautiful soundstage and exquisite midrange.
    • Magnepan MMG-C
The MMG-C is a beautiful center-channel speaker that perfectly matches the MMG-W. We have ours on a floating shelf. It is the best, most neutral center channel speaker we've ever had. The price is a bargain and we would have happily paid much more.
    • Final Sound S95
This subwoofer seamlessly integrates with the rest of our system. It disappears sonically and has some of the most accurate bass I've heard from a subwoofer. This sub would be at home in a price range three times higher. It is a perfect match for Magnepans.
    • Custom Stand
This stand was built to our specifications my some master Amish craftsman. We ordered it from Heritage Amish Furniture in Virginia Beach, VA. The wood was hand selected and the stain was as well. It took 11 weeks to complete and it is a solid, heirloom-quality piece of furniture. It perfectly matches our decor.
    • Custom Power Cords
I hand-made all the IEC power cords in our system. I spent 3 months doing extensive research on the optimal cable and twist rate. I use aerospace-grade wire and Marinco/Wattgate connectors. Each cable takes me about an hour to make. I had an independant reviewer test these cables and he found that they out-performed cables literally 6 times the price of what it cost me to assemble them. The braiding rate and cable is a secret as well is the shielding. After hearing the difference between my cable and others I can't think of using someone else's cable.
    • Gotham / GLS Interconnects
The interconnects are custom made using Gotham Cable.

Hi - could you please tell me how to configure this player to play CDs? I jut got one and am using a universal remote but the manual is useless as to how to configure the player. Thanks, Mike.

System edited: We removed the SL-P999 and replaced it with a Pioneer DVD-V7400 acting as a digital trasport. The sound improvement is very noticeable. The soundstaging and detail is much better than before.
