System edited: Mounted equipment on a proper audio stand. Changed from Mogami Pro XLR between Pre and Amp to top end Monster Sigma Retro Gold.

System edited: Finally changed to QED loudspeaker cable. The soundstaging improved over the Blue Heavens, which I enjoyed very much. Slightly more detail with the QEDs too. I changed the Solar Winds to the Van den Hul ICs between the CD and pre - wow! That was by far my weakest link. I had attributed some high-end grain to the recording itself, but it must have been the Solar Wind IC. The Van den Hul immediately made everything more detailed yet added a nice lushness to the music. Everything now sounds more "real" and involving. No other change to date had made me want to listen to my music more...

Hi,

Thanks. The room is 14x14x8, with the block out for the fireplace and a bay window on one side. The LB1s are designed as a nearfield monitor and you are entirely correct about moving them out into the room. It then seems like you are envelloped by the music...
A happy 2005 to you too!

Glenn:
Nice system. Do you mind sharing the room dimensions. From the picture I inferr you have the system setup for nearfield listening right?
Have you considered moving speakers away from fireplace, 1 ft could pleasantly improve imaging / soundstaging.
The best for 2005!

Great start, Glenn. I also had a 4B SST at one point, and sometimes wish I still had it. Terrific amp. I also had a BP-25 which I eventually replaced with a tubed pre-amp, and found the tubed pre and 4B SST to be a great combo. Food for thought.
