Thank You for your sincere response. When I looked at both your system, that was what I was wondering. But I can very well imagine the Harbeths sounding full. I do know a couple of people who love the Harbeth 40s in different series (1, 2, 3). But in reality you have 2 excellent systems. Enjoy your music!
That’s a tough question! If I had to choose one I guess I would go with my living room system. Both are really good but very different. I like the fullness of the M40.1 speakers. Vocals, piano, strings and horns all sound natural on the big Harbeths.
The Klipsch has a sound that’s very engaging and dynamic. They image incredibly well and very lifelike. The Cornwalls are very revealing of the amp and you need to be careful matching them up.
Love the Radikal....looks like we are the only two on A'gon with this unit. I guess the old fruit box isn't that popular these days. A pity as I believe it still can compete well with the very best...IF using a Radikal..:0)
Thanks for your comments. I recall reading some of your comments when I was doing my research on the M40.1. At the time, I wondered why you sold them. The dimensions of my room,(roughly 15 x 24 with about a 22ft ceiling and the floor plan is very open so it is actually longer than 15' deep), make it ideal for a large speaker like the M40.1. Before the 40.1, I had the SHL5 and a REL Strata III that I liked a lot. However,I feel the 40.1 is really special. It took maybe 3-4 months for the speakers and the new McIntosh amp to settle in but now its sounding great to my ears. I don't feel the need to make any further changes.
Agree on Pcoombs statement of "great" speaker choice. I had the M-40.1's at one time and sometimes regret ever selling them.
I like to mix things up every now and then... so I sold them to try Daedalus Ulysses, another fine speaker. However, I missed the Harbeth sound and eventually sold them. Now I have the SHL5's supplemented with a REL Storm sub. Glad to be back in the Harbeth family again. The SHL5's are very satisfying... and I may eventually go back to the big boys (40.1's).
