WIP Built dedicated listening room summer 2016. Room is 26' x 16' x 7.75', Used resilient channel all around to decouple the 5/8 drywall from the studs. Used roxul safe n sound insulation everywhere. Double drywall with green glue for the ceiling.
3x 10awg dedicated lines ran to the system using hubbel industrial outlets.
the systems noise floor is extremely low and the acoustics of the room are pretty good with the gik acoustics stuff, except some bass modes which I will need to address once I get my better mic for REW DSP.
NHT 3.3s set up per nht's manual, 4" from the front wall.
the listening position 1.5x the distance back ad the distance between the speakers. They are about ~12ft apart so the listening seat is approx 18 ft back.
The sound is extremely full and crisp. Soundstage is impressive in its width, height, and depth. center image is strong and speakers do dissapear. I'm a big proponent of sealed woofer enclosures and the 2x 12" and 2x 18" woofers truly create unbelievably clean & linear bass.
NHT 3.3s running full range off the krell KAV 250, and the 2x SI subs crossed over at 60hz. all balanced wiring. I have experimented with bi amping the NHT 3.3s with a hafler p7000 on the low end and the krell up top, but the bass was a bit more muddy. This was ebfore my wild REW though so I will try this again soon.
I'm getting the sound that I want out of my system I just want a smoother sounding amp- thinking threshhold, pass labs, mark levinson. or perhaps picking up quicksilver/shengya/prima luna tube amps to biamp top end of the 3.3s and leave the krell on the bottom end.
I'm constantly working on my digital chain but I think it's at a great place right now, looking to hear as many high end systems as I can to gauge where I'm at sonically.
next thing to work on is carpeting and installing binding posts in the subwoofer boxes, and gettin the room painted.
any comments/criticism/recommendations welcome. I am still very new to this hobby
