Description

after many years of pissing about with ok gear ,i have finally got a system that suit my taste

the speed ,impact ,dynamic contrast of this combo is really something ,

i have since stopped evaluating gear alltogheter

listening to colin walcott "cloud dance" the other night made me think of a late friend of mine and his fondness of this ECM milestone , i am now enjoying music so much it hurts

tam you should have never left us without listening to this combo

I am not aware of any 300B based amp from WAVAC with 50 watts except for the very expensive one - the 300B integrated is just 12 watts per channel.

I would ask you to double check with your friend.

hi
a friend of mine who distibutes wavac in the uk asked me if i wanted to try a 300b integrated ;not sure but he mentioned 50 watts a side ,i will give it a try and report back my findings , do you have any experience with these
regards
andre

I like the 300B since those are the less ideosyncratic of the bunch - compared to the 211 or 845, at some expense in the frequency extremes.

I played around last night with my audio-frienda and installed Einacoms tunning coils from Harmonix - they bring a nice improvement to the AGs as well, particullary the AC line filters.

I am not really into multi-amp(ing) - it solves some things but brings in many other challemges - now I am focused on upgrding my tonearm >-)

hi .i would say what matters really is amp quality but power is important ,maybe a 50 watter will do .maybe a tube amp .but the best i heard an avantgarde was on halcro dm38
a friend of mine has it on a duo .he is on audioconsulting website as mr k
serge schmidlin ,came to his place to listen with a rock amplifier as he sold him some transformer for the subs

my opinion of Mr schmidlin is high .he is your very genuine audiophile with some considerable knowledge in electronics .
he was also floored .
he was so floored that he produced a crossover for my friend and it became commercially available from audio consulting
that made a huge improvement .
Herve ,removed the frame and suspended the mids and high from the ceiling .
he simply remodeled the ag to be like a trio omega in the mid/tweeter section .the sub was turned on its cheek atop of a sorbothane and wood sandwich like platform

the three secctions are triwired to each driver ,silve analysis plus top and bottom ,oval 8 on the midrange
each sub has a 1000va audioconsulting transformer

powered by a halcro dm38 and a switchman 3 preamp .also like me a reimyo cdp 777

a room with 600 square ft . pure dynamite .a system with startling speed .impact and detail .
in a best possible sense ,it will bite your head off kind of audio
listening to Erik truffaz bendind new corners .was amazing .you hear the hums of bass amps and the distortions in the recording very vivdly .really like their rig is the room .i would be outraged if i was his neighbor
with this combo (much better sounding than mine ) you are the recording .everytime he plays something .you get snatched by the music

what are the very best option on tubes in your opinion

esotheric

Very interesting - thanks for sharing your response - now some thoughts:

1.- I bought my UNOs hooked to a Krell 600 sounded really good
2.- I have had at least five amps with my UNOs, I still think that the Meishu isa great match for them - BUT - there are some impact still missing - particulary with Alternative.
3.- My experience tells that as more power piles in the amp - less texture and music intent is perceived - BUT - my experience is poor with high power amps with this speakers.

Maybe a high power SET ??? mmmmmm

Just escaped from the studio. So may have to do it tomorrow.

That Brian Eno record is stunning. Its beautifully recorded to. Some extra ordinary bass on it too. A very rare recording. I have another one too. Lets listen tomorrow. My VD cables should arrive too...

played a mark egan live yesterday ,then switched to our exclusive brian eno .it was illegal hifi !!!!the 5 track with the pitched vocoder fading in and out of the soundstage ,immense ....,preamp on 16 out of 100 ,absolutely amazing detail ,that synth bass had a hammer like quality ,real fast and defined
been thinking about and istanbul pilgrimage tonite ...then an auralex party ,and estonian goods .
home alone early april .for 2 weeks .lets do a long session mate

oh those amps were very heavy and not a joy to carry up stairs. Audiophile fools...

While I am sure there are other amps starting to catch the performance of the original Halcros, the halcro DM series are the finest amps I have ever heard.

While I can understand why some people stay with valves, I do feel a little sorry for them, as they will never know what their hifi is ultimately capable of.

Lamms, audio note, wavac and so on all sound great in certain areas but not completely in all areas especially in the bass and speed/dynamics departments and noise floor.

The original Halcro amps when they came out were light years ahead of anything else, they could make your speakers sound utterly balanced and coherent.

Now Halcro have pushed the performance even further in the DM 88 etc which must add insult to injury to other manufacturers. Apart from Mr Candy surely someone else must have a good design, oh and a bit cheaper please?

the halcro came to me as a total accident .
i was looking at some newer brands of satellite speaker to sell . and the ditributor had a dm 38 sitting in a corner as he was playing some 68 at the time .
i took it whith me (chad .is your ass still sore????)
i also had numerous other high end amps just lurking around ,bel canto evos, audiovalve baldur 200 ,plinius reference 300 ,aloias, gamuts d200 ,audio research 150 monos ,lamms 100 ,acoustic arts amp top of the line , and some more
hooked the halcro ,180 watts on 101 db ,surely a mistake ???? .... i was absolutely floored .i realised also how good the uno could be . there was some albums that sounded totally new ,in a way i have never heard them before , you might think i am a fantasist .....i may sound utterly over the top .
never i heard an amp like this before .so agile and transparent .just simple music .
chad and i always say how right (dont know how to explain ) the album is
i will never use another combination of amp and speaker .to me it is totally pointless
funny thing is .everytime i see a AG .there is always a tube amp next to it .some 300 b and px25 ,maybe a kt88
i think people got into a rut of valve ,hi eff combos

in my opinion ag need the very best s/n it can get ,the quietsest amps around . most tubes i look at or tried fail miserably in the noise departement
then , the uno need power more than 50 watts in my opinion ,those 7 ,8watters just is not enough
180 is way too much .but it has all the ag can take and in quantity as well as quality
for me the halcro is just nothing ,i see it as removing a stage and not adding . sort of going crossoverless in a speaker

esotheric

Nice system - isnt the Halcro overkilling the AGs???

Congrats!

flg2001

I'm a firm believer in "less is more". I also have a system with as few components as possible. The more you add to a system with components and cables, the more you remove yourself from the recording, I think. I see a lot of systems, but what struck me about yours was the coherence and synergy that I'm sure your system has. Very impressed!

devilboy

No chance of changing to a nice pair of beauhorns then? Oh the highs and who needs a sub? Perfect for minimum maximum NOT

chadeffect

Owner
hi .
changed the cd to a cdp 777 ,and you know what .i even have less time now
i run a Ci outlet in london .takes up pretty much all hours of the day
i mainly listen late nights .with the new player ,it is absolutely immense .the reimyo has exceeded all of my expectations .got it for cheap also .what a machine !!!!

esotheric

Love the UNo's. Hope you always have the "time" to really listen. Nice watches too.

glenfihi

Halcro...Ahhhhhh! But why no picture of the new CD player? As good as the Audio Aero was we have both moved on. I left a post with a quad lover who said the word dynamic. I think he should hear your horns! The quad will sound like wet cardboard in comparison not to mention the bass. All kneel before the Halcro. See you soon.

chadeffect

Do you live in the UK by any chance?

jack667

AH
Cool - I've been after a Ciabatta for ages - and Im Italian to ! Any ideas as to where I'd find one >
Thanks
Lensi

lensi

nice setup!

no preamp ??
interesting....
Congrats on your watch collection.

flg2001

Owner
thanks Adamg ,i have always had a "PENCHANT" for labour intensive toys

esotheric

You have an outstanding system but nothing can compare to your Perregaux watch collection. You could have the Avantgarde trio's and Halco hm68 monos for the price of that box!
