Long time to build but my belief is not upgrading too often.

I like to attend live music events, visit audio stores, audio shows (when possible), and try to widen my musical tastes and knowledge.

Current room is not considered small, not ideally shaped though, having one side open, but showing a rather decent behaviour as it is not acoustically treated. 

Speakers are spaced more than +2,5m apart, +1m away from front wall and the listening distance is +3m.

Signal and power cabling is mainly comprised of fine Japanese PC-Triple C & PC-OCC wire from Acoustic Revive, Furutech and Kondo, thus combining sonically the best of both technologies. 
Still I find the PC-Triple C to be the more advanced of the two, with a higher S/N ratio, more resolving and open with an inherently dynamic quality of sound and with greater speed.

Components are connected on two wall outlets (3 phase supply, same line), with pre/sources  through a power distributor and power amp directly on the wall. 

Any thoughts for room treatment or possible upgrades/changes/additions will have to wait till moving to my new dedicated area.

    • Bauer Audio DPS 3

    This is an end of the road unit. A very high torque motor and a high resistance noise free bearing is one of the big advantages of this extremely capable suspended turntable. Amazing pitch stability and w&f. Starts and stops faster than a DD one. Attention to detail is off the charts and i bet that Willibald Bauer will think of something more to improve it even further.
    My deck has the very latest upgrades, the all new higher spec bearing,  an improved oil formula for this bearing and the new spec belt, all being worthwhile changes thus transforming an exemplary turntable into something very special.
    • SME Series V

    Matches with DPS and Zyx. But it was a very good match with my previous Pink Triangle turntable and previous cartridges also. Having this arm since 1994, trouble free all these years, i expect it to be a top line performer for the years to come. Great sense of ease, both sonically and operationally,  close to a live performance. Changing the supplied arm cable is a worthwhile improvement.
    • ZYX 4D ULTIMATE X/HSB2

    This is the higher output (0,48mv) copper version with the silver top base and ZN nut & screws. Not a night and day difference between the two versions (L & H), listened to both, actually they are very close, tracking is excellent between 1,85-1,91gr (easily surpassing manufacturers trackability claimed figures on Ortofon test record), for now my tracking setting is at 1,85gr,  and i guess it can get even lower. It is dead quiet, never sounding nervous whatever the material, is a natural performer with a touch of warmth. Speed, bass, imaging, instrument placing, and info retrieval are completing the picture. This is my second ZYX cartridge and in many ways  better than my previous Yatra 2 mkII. When in need for a change it would still be at the top of my list (in exceed version).
    • Bryston BP-2 MM, TF-2 20 MC STEP UP and PS-3

    Very Impressive and equally quiet, neutral, accurate. Super sounding phono stage at more than a fair price. A very big mistake if they are overlooked as they are excellent engineered units even if lacking any MC loading adjustments.
    Reason for not going with the MM/MC version is the slightly bigger image dimensions offered, especially in width, by using separate MM stage and separate step up unit.
    • Bryston BP-17 Cubed

    The newest addition to my system, replacing an upgraded Sonic Frontiers Line 2 that did serve me well for nearly 26 years, not bad.
    So far i am very pleased with what i hear with this one, i find it has an engaging and immediate sound, offers plenty of detail being very quiet, sounds neutral with excellent impact and good dimensions. A true value component.
    Most important though it shows to be good match with my power amp and with Bryston's own phono stage.
    • Sony TA-N1

    A game changer. A tool, simple and pure with attention to detail, i would call it elegant engineering. There is more though offered here apart from pure elegance. Main strength is the absence of character attributing to great transparency and extension with a very big and open soundstage. Natural speed and warmth with fine attack and dynamics, a rock solid and extended bass with energy and articulation, complete the picture of this wonderful CFB Mosfet amp. It seems that these amps circa 2000 were something special and production halted around 130pcs.
    Mine has a serial number of 115.
    Finally for me it is a very good looking beast, a rare feat in Audio. Definitely a keeper.
    • Sony SCD-XA9000es

    This XA9000ES is still an excellent performer even considering its age, a purchase dating back in 2004.
    Though I am waiting for my new CD player, a Bryston BCD-3, this XA9000ES will remain in the system, used as a SACD player, only after replacing the laser mechanism along with the RF board.
    I have owned and enjoyed in the past some of the big integrated Sony players like, CDP-XA707ES, CDP-XA7ES, SCD-1, SCD-XA777ES.
    • Sony ST-J88B

    I really enjoy jazz, funk, ambient, electronica on this FM only tuner, late night listening is a very good musical experience. IF selectivity is exceptional in wide and outstanding in narrow mode.
    A good calibration is required after all these years and an external antena is a must.
    Ageing parts, all electrolytic caps, regulators, op amps, lamps, have been replaced. Resistors and ceramic filters not touched. A great sound from an elegant design, another keeper, till FM broadcast goes silent.
    • PMC Twenty5.26i

    After so many years of pure enjoyment with the Dunlavy SC-III it was time to get a decidedly better speaker. And what a change, this is a friendly and well executed design that can do so many things correctly. Excellent focus, big open soundstage, super detailed mids, rhythmic bass with speed, impact and extension. Transparent and musically involving, with a wide resolution area. ATL works.
    The disappearing act and being there effect so easily performed.

    Have tried in the past many DIY solutions, different platforms, different racks, various vibration control tweeks but nothing comes close to a well executed designed rack. This is modular, rigid, and elegant. Yes, they are expensive, but is money well spent and better value in the long term.

    I have enjoyed various tubed gear from CJ, ARC, SF, in over 30 years and tried nearly everything in ecc81, ecc88 and 5687 families but i have kept only some pairs of the ones listed below, for their excellent contribution to sonics, at least in the components i have used, and for their condition status. My top favourites are the 6n23p Voskhods made in mid 70's. The 6n23p Reflektor same period could be slightly better but i never had the chance to live with those.

Good to know that that Sony is also a Current Feedback. I have read good stuff about vintage Sony stuff. In fact it was on an all-Sony system that I heard Michael Jackson’s Thriller album on LP for the first time. I was not even 10 that time. But I am guessing that it was THAT system and the sound that probably planted the seed of this hobby in me!

Hi milpai, thank you, enjoyed your system page and mostly that you have support, in your passion, a rare find. Yes one of the majors is out for the moment (a long time) accountants appeared - ideas disappeared. Still a good component though made in the past can sing beautifully today. Like your Accuphase it is a Current Feedback design and when these are made with care they are not easily surpassed.

Those speakers were on my shortlist when I was searching for an upgrade. Nicely setup. Looked up the Sony amp.Sad that Sony does not make components like these.
But I too believe in your belief.

i was really pleased using the Dunlavys with ss or tubes, but the game really changed with the N1. It is revealing to the point of showing everything i am attempting before getting the signal there. If i did not have the patience to stay and explore my possibilities then most likely i could do a lot worse. There comes that moment when you realise that there is something special going on and the only way left is going up without changing gear.
I have seen your system, and you have done an amazing job in a limited space.

Hi, it is calibrated for RMG SM911 but SM468 and XL1 are equally good.
I record from radio and lp's though it needs servicing now as output board acts funny, otherwise it is a fine deck easy to maintain and spares are plenty.

thank you JO, sounds warm, detailed with amazing sounstage, even though most of the gear does have years of use but not outdated yet. I had a SF power 2 but that TAN1 really outclassed it, no signature at all and with amazing highs. SF gear have potential and some tweaks are most rewarding. DPS 3 has all the positive virtues of a Linn, Well Tempered and Pink Triangle-withe less noise.

That is one badass system petg60 and that Sony TA-N1 is a beast! I was just reading about it on the Vintage Knob I've never seen or heard of it before, It must drive those Dulavy's perfectly. Really great table too and nice upgrades to your SF gear.
