Description

Happy with performance and versatility of this setup. Simple straight to the point. This is a welcome addition from having my home theater system tied together to my 2 channel set up. I just received my Sonos system which I will run through my Cambridge DAC. Still simple, but with more options. Someday I will add a turntable. The only problem, not one single record to my name. This sounds dangerous already.

how do you like your Cambridge Audio? I have the 640c and love it, so I can only imagine the 840??

System edited: Moved recently. Smaller room, but no kids toys to deal with. Accoustics improved with nearfield listening and no slap echo. MY OWN SPACE, HOW COOL!!!

Hi Beerad
I work as a carpenter on site 3 days a week, and 2 day's at home doing quotes/plans/ordering materials and generally finding reason's NOT to do the AFOREMENTIONED.

It does'nt make a fortune but does give me the time to indulge my interest's.

I've got mike to thank for planting seed, to moving the speaker's around,I'd been thinking about removing all the unecessary junk but never got around to it.

Yeah I really liked the simplicity of your system,I imagen it sound's much like mine.

Do you have any plan's to ad to your rig,say tube preamp I found when I added the preamp to the system the sound stage open up even more.

Beerad,

You're welcome.

Great minds think alike - about 2/3 weeks ago I upgraded with Gold Lion reissues too and went with EH 12AU7 Golds and TungSol 12AX7 Golds. Having just rolled the driver tubes in my Almarro 318B with NOS Mullards, it was tempting to go with the same; however, I decided to try something with a different flavour. The combination of these tubes makes for a very clean, detailed presentation with much improved imaging. Bass is real tight too - more SS-like than expected. I can imagine that, with the Mullards, your system's midrange is wonderful with a nice smooth sound.

Good stuff re: the wife. Perhaps a few more instances like that and she'll see you/us as "normal" . . . nahhhh, scratch that . . . birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, and wives must assume hi-fi husbands are a bit loony :)!

Enjoy your kit.

Cheers,
Garry

PS - Pics please - you've gotta show those lovely Viennas off a bit.

Thanks for the comments Garry.I have the Baby Grands on my setup. I have also just upgraded my tube setup to include Genelex Gold Line Kt88 reissue, Mullard cv4003 12AU7 and Groove tubes GT12AX7M (Mullard copy). I must say the tube swap did surprise me at the veil it lifted off the sound. My wife, who doesnt understand the obsession and thinks were all nuts, was a little spooked out at the realizm of the sound. A door closed in the background of one of her favorite cd's that we had never heard before. she was convoinced it was an intruder in the house. Not until I replayed the section of music did she relax. good times

Beerad,

Is it the Baby Grand you've got or the Concert Grand? Either way, you've assembled yourself a very nice and straightforward simple system thus far. Quite familiar with all of your kit, each piece is beautifully made and beautiful sounding. Really can't think of anything you'd need to upgrade for the foreseeable future save, perhaps, a nice REL R-series sub (owned by the same company as VA).

Any chance of pictures soon?

Cheers,
Garry
