I will try to be polite! My suggestion based on the fact that you have a fairly good CDP would be to address the 1) speakers, and 2) the amp.
It's been a long time since people considered Bose 901 speakers to be a good quality speaker. There are literally thousands of options in this catagory.
Without a budget it is difficult to make suggestions. Don't put too much stock into what others say. Buy based on what you hear, not on what others tell you you should hear.
