2 channel low fi want to take next step

Description

I'm looking to upgrade this budget system. I'm willing to spend:

cd player - 500-1000

integrated amp - 1.5 k

speakers - 2 k

I'm really taken with the SACD/CD players like the Sony 9000ES with some mods.

I've just dipped my toes into the tube integrated world. The Decware Zen TorII looks interesting. The Unico has also caught my eye. On the solid state side I'm considering the moon i-5.

For speakers, I need monitors because of the WAF. I've liked B&W CDM 1NTs, Linn Ninka, Proac tablette 8 (I think?). For a little more money the Reference 3a de capoi were very nice.

Can you help me on my quest for musical nirvana?

Hate to admit it, but I would like something that not only sounds better but looks better.

If you are into used, I would recommend McIntosh amps (here or ebay) if you can find one in good shape.

Denon 3800 DVD offers good sound as well ($450 ecost.com) refurb.

Speakers are difficult to suggest - I would listen to your type of music on big names like Paradigm, PSB, Mission, Monitor audio, etc and go with the one you fall in love with. Try to find one with good tranparent tweeter.
