Description

This is a system that was built with gradual improvements as my finances would allow. With the latest upgrade of the speakers, I am now really set for the long haul. My cartridge may need replacement in the spring - it's getting a little bit old (4 years or so of heavy use).

Components Toggle details

    • Lyra Kleos
Lovely low output cartridge - highly detailed.
    • VPI Industries Super Scoutmaster Reference
A turntable built like a tank. I got rid of the rim drive (too noisy), and went for a HRX dual motor drive.
    • Auralic Vega
    It does everything well.
    • Auralic Aries
Streamer not a transport (well, yes, maybe)
    • Valve Amplification Company REN-pre
    Silent, extremely detailed.
    • McIntosh MC-601
    Authoritative, but not harsh.
    • Kharma db9-S
Incredibly detailed with very tight and bountiful bass. Excellent mid details, and the highs are hot shrill - but precise and lively.
    • Purist Audio Aqueous
Very detailed, no nonsense cables used throughout.

Very nice system! What do you use to connect the aries and the vega? USB, coaxial or AES?
Thanks!

I forgot to add my Zesto phono stage. Absolutely amazing phono stage (and very quiet for tube). I had a very difficult time finding some very silent NOS Telefunken tubes for it. It is easy to find Telefunken 12AX7 NOS tubes, BUT, to find ones that are extremely quiet (-82db or better) was very very difficult.

"visceral". Not a term I've heard used much but a very descriptive one!

Very nice setup. Gotta sound fantastic! The VAC/Mc combo is interesting.
