Description

For the enjoyment of music.  Lot's of changes over the years.  I typically won't buy something unless I can listen to it in my system.   Spending a lot of time recently searching out well recorded and interesting music via hi res downloads.   I have a really nice vinyl collection mostly Jazz and pop.  Digital I'm filling out my classical titles and more modern recordings.  Jan '16

JFrech,

How would you compare the Allaerts to the Atlas? Is it too early. The Atlas is tempting but the Anna is getting some nice feedback as well. I still love my Titan.

dgad

Thanks JFrech! Good to know...i am very inclined to trial the tranport at home...but given the price of one of the matching transport...i kinda hesitate every time i think about actually pulling the trigger. Though i suspect at some point...i probably will.

Enjoy your amazing system!

HI it's pretty clear the transport wins. My dealer also has the scarlatti upsampler so this is giving the USB/MAC/Amarra the best shot. Now hi rez digital does sound very good, ditto redbook via usb...but it's just not as good as off the transport...

Thanks for the compliments..system is really sound nice ;-)

I have to say...I am missing those Gryphon amps I heard at Rockport...those and the Rockport speakers are pretty amazing...

jfrech

Wow! Great pics! Like the Rives diagram...not seen one before. neat.

BTW, how does the Mac/Amarra set up compare to playing the track off the Scarlatti transport? Just curious how close you feel the 2 are. If Scarlatti is an aribtrary score of '100'...where does the Mac source into your Scarlatti score? tahnks!!!

Hi, room is really sounding great. Just waiting on a few more RPG bad panels and absorbers to finish it up. I can say it's like a new system....the bass is by far the best i've ever had...

I think the Sasha vs maxx 2 is pretty easy..the sasha should win in all areas except maybe how the woofers connect with the room and maybe, maybe dynamics, and possibly height of the presentation. The Sasha's may even be slightly more transparent than my Maxx 3s. Given this choice...I'd have to say Sasha's...

In this price range I think the Rockport Aviors are also a must consider...

jfrech

Hi John
Trust you are well and enjoying your truly awesome room and system. Can you send me a mail ? Need some advice regd demo/used Wilson Max 2s vs Sasha. There are at almost the same price point.
Cheers

Can't wait to hear the final result. Yep, we're going to the race. Not sure what the current ticket situation is, but I'm sure there are some around. Things are good.

lenny_zwik

John, exciting to see and hear about the changes. It's a big committment. Would like to come by again. Thanks for the tips on cables.

Hi lenny, it's about 90% done now. Only items left are 4 rpg bad panels (going on sloped cieling) and several rpg absorbers in the rear of the room. It's a dramatic change, both in looks (came out much better than I had hoped) and of course in sound. The dormers/rear stair case have 72 x 48 inch high rpg variscreens in them. They are about 4 inches thick with a bad panel on one side/absorbtion on the other. Really killed/tamed those areas...

I suppose u r going to the grand prix? I guess I need to figure out tickets, I don't want to miss it...hope all is well with u!

jfrech

So, are you finished? What did you do about the dormers?

Hi Gayle, you'll have to stop by soon. Really some big changes. Casey and I moved the speaker out about 3 feet and wider apart Sunday. Every 1 cm move was audible...took us about 6 hours to lock it in perfectly. Very nice, much more articulate everywhere. Bass is the best I've EVER had now.

The clock cables seem to allow the clock to do it's job better. I first started hearing stuff when I swapped ac cords my clock. Better focus, better detail retrieval, things portrayed in space better. Same happens on better clock bnc cables. I've used Cardas and Purist. Cardas is a steal at around $250. Purist does seem a bit better at 3-4x the price though.

Hope all is well on your end!

jfrech

John, congratulations on the rives project. It is really coming together nicely. Can you elaborate on your experiences with clock cables for the Scarlatti?

Will be buying new ones at some point.
Thanks
Gayle

Hi Peter, I should have it up and running tomorrow. I'll post back...very curious here, I've owned 4 lyras...and can't wait to hear this one! I always kicked myself for not getting a olympos

jfrech

John, What do you think of the Atlas? Was it in your system?

How does it sound? I bet it's great! I know the hassle of getting stuff fixed isn't fun....

So is this noise like a pop? Right when the preamp mutes at zero? Ditto the input switching? If so my VK51SE did that to...pretty sure it has something to do with the caps...but doesn't effect sound and really isn't something to fix.

working as designed i think was the word i heard...

My Nagra PLL pops on power on...some stuff just does this...In nagra's case...they got to use one less relay to mute the output...claiming a purer signal path...

jfrech

Jfrech... got my BAT amp back and it is all good now... no more humming noise. I do however have a question... when I turn my volume down to zero on my BAT 31SE, I do hear a loud noise... this also happens when i switch inputs

is this normal?
thanks,
Jo

Hi, I bought a Cardas Lightening that Casey brought over. I think the sound in my room is the best it's going to get w/o spending significant $s and I'm not ready to do that yet. Let me know when the room is finished.

Yeah, that car is a beast. I've had it a year and am still intimidated. Take care.

Hi Pradeep, thanks! I can't wait to get the room finished...still considering tonearms... the Reed 3p is pretty much at the top of the list...

I'm using Transparent Reference XL with MM2. (off my tonearm, off the SUT and off the phono stage to pre) Pretty impressed with the way they tune the cables to match everything. Lowest noise floor cable I've had yet. I do have Purist Proteus Provectus Praesto...that cable is very good...system matching or better said system preference really dictates which...

I have not tried the Shunyata interconnects...I have heard from a friend he had RFI issues...but I don't know if it was him, his system or the cables. I am so happy with Transparent, I really don't have a desire to look right now...

Now Shunyata's power cords are different ! I think my views on the Anaconda zitron are changing. I used to think the King Cobra CX had it beat in warmth/maybe bass...but the Anaconda Zitron beat it handily everywhere else. Seems after extended breakin on the Anaconda Zitron, it definitely beats the KC CX in the bass (especially in deep deep bass)..and the equal in warmth. I am going to try to move to all Anaconda Zitrons soon...

jfrech

Hi John
The changes to your room and system are awesome. Congrats.
Heard you were contemplating a change in your tonearm. All the best in your search. Given the overall quality of your system , I am pretty sure you know whats good for you.
Incidentally, which phono cable do you use ? Do you have any views/recommendations regd Shunyata ics ?
Cheers

Hey Lenny! I heard about the clock, I really noticed it, especially on sacds. Did u try a cardas clock cable also? If not, I have a extra u can try....

I should have my room done in about 3 weeks. It's gotten a lot better, similar to what you're room and your rives correction u have (I still remember that demo-wow)

Also, I'd love to give the turbo a spin...my gts is really nice-best car I've ever had...(Have some nice curvy roads) close to me)

I'll reach out when my room is done...
