How'd you like the 802's? I plan to upgrade to these when I win the lottery (yeah, I can dream..)

Thanks for the feedback Musicaudio! I have been really happy with the sound lately. The speakers have finally broken in. They took about 6 months to settle down.

I've have thought quite a bit about changing to two 275's to get some more power to the 802Ds. I may try that out in the future, but for now I think I need to let enough be enough. The speakers were expensive, so the wifey has asked me to cool it down on my spending. I am complying to keep harmony at home.

I did make one recent change. I upgraded all the tubes on the MA2275. I bought NOS 4 Genalex KT88s, 4 Bugle Boy Halo getter Matched 12ax7, and 2 Telefunken 12at7 EEC801s. This has made a tremendous improvement in the overall sound. I love this change over the Mac tubes. It seemed to have opened up the equipment - especially while spinning vinyl.

I think if I take your suggestion, I'll probably go with 2 275's, as I really like the tube sound better than the solid state from McIntosh.

Thanks for the nice comments!

Hi Terry,

Nice set-up. The Mcintosh/B&W combo is one of the greatest sounding combo's in my opinion. It's amazing that the 75 watts from a MA-2275 can power B&W 802D's. You asked for suggestions, I am wondering how it would sound with more power such as the MC-2102 or buying two 275's? I would suggest going to solid state, such as what Brian just did with his set-up (C-45/ MC402) but after hearing more direct comparisons between tubes and solid state, I just really feel that tubes produce more pleasant sounding music. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the set-up, Lord knows I would!
