This is my second system. It’s more of a test bed to experiment with different types system components. The core of the system is based on the ARC amp and Herron preamp. Both these items were purchased used. I didn’t spend more than $1,900 for both. Originally they would have set me back $8,000! And they sound WONDERFUL! Even compared to much more modern components. The Canton speakers are brand new but are 10 years old. They were originally $4,000, and I bought them new for $1,400. They are very clean and have more bass than they have any right to be. They remind me of my Thiel CS2.4’s in clarity, tone, and timber, but a little bit more warm. The also have a wonderful sound stage. I purchased them on a recommendation to replace my aging Vandersteen 2CE’s, and they a superior in my opinion. So overall I am super happy with it, maybe even more so than my main system;)
Where did you purchase the turntable and cartridge? You certainly have a knack for getting high quality equipment. I have the Canton 3.2s and 9.2s and they are some of the best speakers on the market. Agreed the 9.2s have more bass than they should given their paltry 25 lb weight. Truly amazing.

Thanks. Patience helps, but usually when I’m ready for a change I generally know which direction I want to steer the system. Since I rarely am able to hear anything before I buy I try not to dwell on a specific component but rather on types of components. Meaning if I want to try a tube amp I do a bit of research on whats know as a good and reputable “tube amps”. I don’t focus on any one company rather quality companies as a whole. Then I look for good deals from any of them that match my specs. I find the best deal and go for it. I figure I can turn around and sell it if it’s a problem, but I haven’t had an issue yet.
I find that unless you can compare components within your system most great companies like ARC are going to sound great, so I don’t quibble over the nuances between manufacturers too much. And I stay reasonably happy.
