Description

This is a system that brings plenty of detail, speed and energy without loosing any musicality and truth of timbre - I have tried SET, SS, Planars, Ribbons, sealed baffles, ported designs and - IMO this is pretty close to my ideal setup.

Nice system also! Can you provide any tips on tweaks for Avalons? Mine are 7' apart, 49" from back wall, 47" from side walls with a listening distance of 7'. I have considered moving them to 8' apart but received some info that 8' was a bit much for such a small speaker. They are magical and you can't even localize sound coming from them with your eyes open.

Thanks,

Mach2 up&running... not bad.

I did receive the Mach2 server but without any instructions or password to set it up! I am looking to have this info from the dealer but no answer yet, quite dissapointed :(

Thanks Kevin, I would love to learn more from your experience - please email me!

I found the DIY route much less costly than buying and having acoustical treatment goods shipped internationally from the USA. Local materials can be used in their raw form and with your sweet equity you can produce a product that is over engineered and out performs mass produced stuff. I'd be glad to send you a write-up I did on building Skyline or poly cylindrical differs, if you're interested.

I already checked your set-up last night, quite amazing! Congratulations.

I am not there yet!, as you know some panels (even DIY) are not that affordable, and even with the best measurements available, there are some trial & error iterations.

22 Centigrades down here! :)

Thanks Flg2001 for your prompt reply. Thanks for answering my questions. Jazz is a great name for your dog - beats having to call him inside if his name was 'Country & Western' or 'Trance' or 'Acid Rock' or 'Opera!'

I hear many people echo your sentiments that their audio treatments made the biggest difference. You need only take a peek at my System to see that I feel the same way. Congrats and enjoy your warm weather as I freeze up here in Canada !

Thanks Kevin, Jazz is my Schnauzzer's name!..we listed here many options but my vote counted for two, so he got that name!

Yes, those are ASC traps (I use three of them) and will include them in my system description, thanks for the heads-up.

The panels you are referring to are custom made ones from a studio engineer that gives consultation for room treatment here in Mexico, I have three more at the ceiling and some diffusors coming for side walls. It has been the best dollars spent in my system so far.

flg2001

Congrats on the top notch gear Flg2001! Is the picture caption 'Jazz' the dog's name or your musical preference? I see ARC tube traps in the front corners but they're not listed in your system components. What are the two panels centred across the front wall? DIY absorbers? I am always interested in hearing how others have treated their rooms, so any details would be appreciated. Congrats again!

errata: I have not yet received my Mach2, actually I am struggling with them to have it delivered.

Thanks Musicfile! More pics comming once I have the Nagra T up and running, the Mach2 finnaly delivered from The High End Palace, and the King/Cello preamp that is on its way from SF!

...on the amp changing game...well, it is not the best idea (financially speaking), so I made a strong 2012 resolution and promised to stick with the Avalons and the Levinson/Gryphon setup at least 1 year :)

I am using single wire Siltech G5 LS cables 1.5 mt long... Ascent manual is clear on the fact that tri-wire/ampling is feasable, you just need to remove the jumpers at the bottom according to the manual. Let me know if you need a copy of the manual so I can email it to you.

flg2001

looks awesome !

Flg2001, what speaker cable is used with your Avalons? I use a double run of JPS superconductor 2. I am still looking for a third run (1.6 meter spades)in order to realize real tri wiring. This is said to be of great effect. Can any one help? Are you never tired of changing amps? I found solid state in the end not to my taste. It highlights imperfections in the source material (only analog) too much. I setled with OTL`s. It is pain to keep them running but if they do, it is very rewarding.

System edited: I replaced the Symphonic Line Integrated - that was serving as a preamp - for the Gryphon Elektra Dual Mono active preamp, good synergy as for the SL with a tad more of transparency and full-bodied presentation.

I just removed that description, it was incorrect. Sorry for the confusion.
