This is a system that brings plenty of detail, speed and energy without loosing any musicality and truth of timbre - I have tried SET, SS, Planars, Ribbons, sealed baffles, ported designs and - IMO this is pretty close to my ideal setup.
Thanks Audiophile2006, I have performed some of your suggestions before reading your lines here - sucha as pulling them out and closer to each other, I am in the process to try different speaker cables, as for IC I am really happy with the Siltech FTM4 gold, as well as looking for a better AC power conditioner once I have installed a dedicated line (30A).
I am using AG Duos with Cary 805 power amp, Audio note M5 preamp, Cary 306/200 CDP, Kimber Selects 3035 speaker cables and other relevant interconnects and power cords.
My suggestions:
- Please try Audio Note preamps they really match with Avantgardes; - Try Kimber Selects 3035 speaker cables, they bring the warmth and musicality to your AG; - Try Transparent Reference or Ultra interconnects - really improve your system; - Try to use PS Premier power conditioner - it will bring the quite environment to the music; - Use Shunyata Cobra power cords for at least the CDP and preamp - really enjoyable; and - Last but important: pull out your AG far from back and side walls if you want to have a large and deep soundstage as real and live music.
Great system! Regarding amps for the UNOs, I too have tried quite a few. And I must agree that a push-pull valve amp is the way to go. I'm sitting very happy with my Octave V40, a 40wpc EL34 based amp. Best regards, Ola
Indofunka - I have not tried OTL designs yet, but they are a good choice for many AG owners, check the AG website at Gallery and you will find quite a few.
Thanks Fernando. I really love your choice of color for the UNOs. Btw, I looked up OTL manufacturers and there are few noticeable models i.e. Atma MA, Joule VZN, Graff, Transcendent Beast.
The Jadis DA50 Signaure is a pure class A 30 watt amp, just the right size for the 100dB AG (Jim Smith used Thor 30 watt amps at shows).
The SET amps I have tried (Home made 211, Wavac 300B, Welborne 300 Laurel, Home made 45) all had great sound but thin and less dtnamic than push pulls (Class A) I tried.
I was really reluctant to buy the Jadis, but after heareing what it did in my system it never went back.
One of the best options for AG are Audiopax amps, also push-pull, low power design, it just brings more dynamics, tonal density and drive to the AG.
Fernando..I am quite surprise to see you are settling down with the jadis kt88 for your 100db horn. Can you tell me a little bit about the jadis Vs SET? thanks
