Musical interests vary from jazz, classical, female vocals, acoustic, alternative, folk & pop.

Streaming Qobuz on Roon has transformed my listening.  I didn't expect the huge jump in sound quality when I switched to Roon.

Components Toggle details

    • Altec Lansing Model 17
    Vintage high efficiency speakers.

Similar sound signature to previous Altec Model 19's, but more room friendly, better vocals, more coherent, albeit with less bass.

Werner Jagusch crossovers have proven to be a significant upgrade over stock crossovers.
    • deHavilland Electric Ultraverve 3
Most enjoyable and complimentary preamp I've owned, by a large margin.  Responds well to tube rolling.  Currently loaded with NOS Tung Sol's in all positions.  Exceptional value.
    • Welborne Labs Laurel mkII
Upgraded tubes, upgraded caps.   Psvane Acme 300B & VAIC VV30B power tubes, Tung Sol 6SU7GTY/6881 drivers, Mullard CV378 rectifiers
    • Roon Labs Nucleus
Roon Nucleus server paired with IFi Zen Stream as a Roon end-point, connected via Black Cat Silverstar SPDIF cable to Weiss 202 DAC.  Streaming Qobuz.  Surprisingly nice step up in sound quality and enjoyability from my previous Aurender N10 at 1/4th the cost.
    • Silent Running Audio VR-2 & 3 isolation platforms
I tired of messing with the various footers on the market. These are the real deal... excellent construction, visually appealing and effective.
    • KCI Silkworm RCA Interconnect
Gold based RCA interconnect cable. Outperforms the Purist Venustas it replaced by a large margin.
    • Salamander Synergy Triple 20
    Cherry Finish
    • GIK Room Treatments Tri Traps, 244 panels and Alpha 4 diffusion panels
This is the 2nd room I've treated with GIK products.  Highly recommended, especially 244 panels.
    • Weiss Engineering DAC 202
Replaced an outstanding Audio Aero Capitole Reference DAC/CDP/PRE.  I can't say the Weiss is better than the Audio Aero, but it's more neutral.  This DAC is a bargain on the used market.
    • Acoustic BBQ 12 gage Dueland speaker cables
I've had significantly more expensive speaker cables from Stealth and Auditorium, but prefer these.  I also use ja pair of these in my secondary system.  Great bang for the buck.
    • Cambridge Audio MXN10 Streamer
    Low cost, high value streamer

Pdreher,
I love the C2's...my dream speakers. I imagine the bass is just totally full range with the c2's AND the sub. The baby brother S3.4s seem to be very extended on the bottom now that i added a pass amp. I took my sub out for good now that the amp has awakened them, but I never had a quality sub such as the REL. How do you control the sub? Line level only?
I used to have Contour 1.8MKII's in Rosewood, dyns's BEST color. I settled for Cherry s3.4 cause the timing just was not there.

Awesome!!

Nice system. Try to get your cables off the carpet.

Ryder - Thanks for the compliments. Yes, I'm still using the CD-LAD as my pre and will eventually upgrade down the road when funds become available... maybe the IRS will be good to me next April ;)

Great system you've got there. I particularly like the Dynaudio C2's. These are really classy statement speakers.

If you are still using the Plinius CD-LAD as a preamp, believe me, it's your weakest link. Plinius power amps are great but their their older preamps aren't. I have owned the Plinius M12 and heard the CD-LAD before upgrading to ARC LS-16. Day and night difference. Just thought you might want to know.

Pdreher,

Beautiful system, I bet it sounds great! I'm a fellow Plinius SA102 lover. Coincidently, I've been considering an audition of the AA Capitole CDP as a possible upgrade from my Wadia. See my system at http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?vevol&1132838750&read&3&4&.

Happy listening!

Joey - Thanks for the compliments. I've never heard Martin Logan's either!

Love the Plinius 102.... same as what I got powering some Logans. Havent heard Dyns yet, but from all people say, they are killer.

Nice system and good luck with the new speaker cables!

Pdreher ~ Funny you should ask about my preamp which I just upgraded
from Krell krc-3 to Audio Horizon TP2.0nB tube preamp. I am enjoying
more of my music it brought the sound to another level. It's the best
upgrade I've made so far. (you should read the tread regarding this wonderful
preamp, this is how I found out about it). My system consists of the
following: Krell FPB200, Resolution Audio CD55, Rega P3 hooked up
to Musical Surrounding Phonomena, Cables Tara labs Air2 (speakers),
Decades XLR's and misc. power cords. I don't plan to make any major
purchase soon since I need to sell some of my gear to recoup some $$$
Maybe a new amp when I save enough dough. This hobby is making want
to get a part time job :0)

Jgy1 - I'm very happy with the C2's... by far, the best speaker I have ever owned, but also the most expensive:( I hear wonderful things about the C1's... do you run your C1's with a sub? I'm continuing to use my REL sub with my C2's... it seems to flesh out the sound, and the REL subs are a great value on the used market. The Plinius SA-102 is a nice synergistic match with Dynaudio speakers (also ran it for a short time with some 1.3SE's prior to selling them to pay down my C2's). Currently someone is listing a Plinius SA 250 for only $2350! If your in the market for an amp upgrade, that SA-250 is one hell of a deal that is sure to sell quick.

I've got some new speaker cables on the way (Harmonic Technology Pro 9's +)... I'm hoping they are going to make a favorable contribution to the sound. I'm thinking my next significant upgrade will be a preamp. I'm curious what the rest of your system consists of... especially your preamp and cabling?

Nice looking system, how do you like the sound of the
C2 with the Plinius 102. I have the C1 and I love them,
but I bet the C2 are much nicer.
