My space is 18 X 31 and
acoustically treated with RPG panels, tube traps and fiberglass acoustic treatment
over triple reinforced walls and ceiling. The floor is lamination beams
over steel plates to concrete pier and beam. Two sheets of 5/8 epoxy
lamination sheets make up the floor with two inches of
concrete topped with India multi color slate.
Whisper Wall
rail system and fine textured acoustic cloth covers the work, making everything appear as a normal room of
painted sheet rock or decorative cloth covering.
The room acoustics were conceived by RBDG
and the entire space was torn out to bare dirt under the foundation and
bare studs in the walls. The combo of all new electrical and acoustical treatment resulting in best sound I’ve ever had.
The best offering from Focal, shown with Stillpoints Ultra 5. Ultra 5 was an amazing upgrade for the speakers !
RPG Acoustics QRD 734 (variation)
On front wall, now obscured by acoustically transparent cloth, is floor to ceiling RPG (similar to QRD® 734) in foam, so it's partially absorptive.
Studer Studer A820
Found a near mint A820 at a production studio in Illinois. I was so excited about it's condition I had it driven here in the back of an SUV, covered with moving blankets.
Head block sent to John French and all cards at Soren Wittrup who worked for Studer. This is the machine I spent more than a decade searching for.

Leica Disto D2
Super laser measuring tool. Indispensable for setting distance and alignment of your speakers
I've seen lots of photos of these speakers, but none of the photos ever had anything else in the picture to give any idea of the actual size of the the speakers. I knew they were big speakers, but until the photo of them in your living room, I had no idea of their actual size. Incredible scale, and beautiful too.
Congrats.
It will be interesting to hear your comments regarding the differences in amps when the weather cools off when you go back to the tube amps in the winter. .
. Is that Technics table a belt or direct drive? I had a Technics table in the '70's and they were all direct drive back then. If direct drive, any noticeable differences from belt drive tables you have owned? .
Albert, why didn't you integrate home theater into your system? You have a killer room and components as a great foundation to start a home theater. I see that you currently have guests over for music listening sessions. Man, if you had those same guests over for a movie in that room...omigosh, it would be incredible.
Albert, how do open reel tapes sound vs the same recording in vinyl and cd? Any tape noise? I haven't played mine in years, and I'm not sure it's even working anymore. I keep it for eye candy.
I bought some old pre-recorded tapes a while back and they had print-through real bad, so I gave up hope of reviving the machine for use as a practical source.
Do you ever play your reel to reel? If so, are you using pre-recorded tapes? Do you ever record from LP or CD for reel to reel playback. I have a black reel-to-reel also and I would love to have a coulple of black take-up reels. Does Technics still make those black take-up reels?
Albert, do you get really serious bass from those 6 inch drivers? Do you find that the smaller drivers provide a quckier bass response than previous speakers that you've had with larger drivers?
You are using two different pairs of monoblocs on your speakers. How do you manage to get them to deliver equal amounts of power at the same time? Are you using some sort of volume control? Why didn't you use matching amps for all four channels?
I am doing a complete overhaul of my system and I'm considering the Magalines. There is a pair of Genesis 1.1's available for $50k...have you ever heard the Genesis 1.1's? If so, how do they compare to the Magalines? I am going to fly to NYC to auditon the Genesis.
I am moving back to my loft in January. It has a 22 ft by 70 ft room with a 20 ft high concrete ceiling. I would like to have a pair of bigger than life speakers there.
