`1957 Berlant and Associates 20/20 30 Series 2 Track two speed [ 7 1/2 ips &15 ips ] Broadcast reel to reel record and playback system in travel cases with two Tube Microphone preamplifiers and custom stereo tube playback amplifier built into a matching travel case plus 2 single channel mic. preamp cases. This system is true collector quality and at the time was the finest achievement in consumer level recording equipment and still capable of s true high-fidelity reproduction if used and equipped properly. the reel-to-reel recorder model TWD-1 is designed to accept the 10 1/2" reels and has the original hub adapters for both RMA and NAB type hubs and was designed during the period in the mid to later 50s that stereo was coming to the world and Berlant considered all of the possible needs of the recording and playback engineer past, present and future and made the 20/20 accept up to 5 heeds at a time this model has 4 he installed, erase, record, mono, stereo according to what I have found online. The TWD-1 used no belts or clutches in the drive unit eliminating the biggest problem areas in most reel-to-reel recorders' The two model TWA-1 microphone preamplifiers have the Berlant labeled Tung-Sol tubes and nice big VU meters that have a position switch for different functions #1- bias to monitor the current being supplied to the record head allowing fast verification of the circuit. #2 - Record, reads the modulation level of the recording being made. #3 -output reads signal level on outputs of amplifier. The use of two [one per channel], make the system a 2 channel or stereo record and playback of stereo those. The amplifier is a custom tube amplifier with all 6 transformers being Stancor and running 6V6 tubes in Push pull. The amplifier was custom made decades ago to fit in a very well-made reproduction of the original Berlant Concertone cases. I have no idea of who made this amp if it was a Berlant employee a commissioned or jus home brew but whomever did the work they were talented and the work seems to be on par with Berlant's.I have never applied power to these or even cleaned them. I took a paint brush and swept some dust off the top before taking photographs everything seems like it was very well cared for and has been maintained at a high level. I noticed a pair of loose wires in the amplifier and am attempting determine where they belong , so have a friend stopping in on the 12th to help out and do some resistance testing also have a copy of the instructions and service manuals with schematics [ wish I had that for the custom amp ] Sipping will be expensive especially to other countries the cases weigh about 50 ls each before packaging and each measure 20" x 15" x 10" so I will be doing shipping quotes based on location and method upon requested. I will be offering USPS, FedEx and UPS as I get a bigger discount with my company's account than Audio on has negotiated with the same services. I have done a shipping estimate to Sydney Australia and depending on travel time 3 to 8 business and carrier the 3 50lb cases each insured for $1000 was from right approx. $900 to just a bit over $1800 and can ship these to anywhere in the lower 48 for $300 and less depending on location and will be packed very well as I have several decades of experience shipping vintage audio worldwide.
