I never tried the KT-150's but I did use one set of the KT-120's when they first came out. I preferred the reissue Gold Lion KT'88's over the TungSol KT-88's and KT'120's. I have read in several discussions that the 150's do sound good in these amps though. I used the original KT-88's for a while, then several sets of EL-34's, then the Gold Lion KT-88's exclusively after that. They take a while to break in when new and at 160 hours are getting close. For me the different tubes were highly speaker and manufacturer dependent.
Also in the tube box you will find a set of Teflon and foil coupling caps I had custom made from Arizona Capacitor and have no need for them. I worked in the electronics industry for 40 years and had relationships with manufacturers that would do that for me. Unfortunately I no longer have the data sheet but they are the correct capacitance, tolerance and higher voltage rating. They provide a bit more midrange bloom. Also a few extra bias push switches as they tend to get dirty, and a couple extra 100 Ohm DC balance trim pots as I found one broke once and ordered three since they were inexpensive. I left a note as to which 12FQ7 tubes go with which serial number as the DC balance is set for those. I don't think it is necessary for you to make this adjustment if the tubes have matched sections which yours do. As an engineer I'm a stickler for accuracy though... |
Interesting, but it doesn't discuss who did the service and Repairs. Do you know? I assume quicksilver would have records if they did them. Sorry I don't know |
Did the previous owner replace the parts himself? I do not know. |
