Here we have a Mediocre condition Marantz Model 24 Vintage AM/FM Tuner - Preamplifier from the early 1970's, device is untested but powers on when plugged in, sold as is in that untested state. Has a decent amount of wear, scratches and wood fade from years of storage, but shell is still holding together besides that. Ports on the backside all seem to be in fine shape as well no major wear, and all dials / buttons feel fine and work properly.

The Marantz Model 24 is a vintage stereo AM/FM tuner-preamplifier from the early 1970s, functioning as a high-quality radio tuner combined with a preamplifier for controlling audio sources, featuring controls for volume, bass, treble, balance, and various filters, often housed in a walnut cabinet, prized for its solid build and distinctive sound, though some find its "warm" sound a bit "lifeless," it's known as a solid piece of vintage Marantz gear.

Key Features & Characteristics:

  • Type: Tuner Preamplifier (not a full receiver with amplification).
  • Inputs: Includes Phono (1 & 2), Tape, and Aux.
  • Controls: Offers Bass, Treble, Balance, Volume, Loudness, Low/Hi Filters, Muting, and Antenna Tuning.
  • Tuner: Features a scrolling tuning wheel and an antenna tuning knob for optimal FM reception.
  • Era: Introduced around 1971, part of the classic Marantz lineup.
  • Sound: Known for the typical "warm" Marantz sound, though some reviewers noted it could be perceived as neutral or "lifeless".
  • Design: Often comes in a wood (walnut) cabinet, common for Marantz gear of that period.
What it's Used For:
  • It serves as the central control unit (preamp) for a stereo system, allowing you to select sources and adjust tone/volume before sending the signal to a separate power amplifier.
  • It's ideal for those who want high-quality radio reception and source control and already have (or plan to get) a separate power amp, as it lacks built-in speaker amplification.
In Summary:
The Model 24 is a sought-after component for vintage audio enthusiasts, offering classic Marantz quality in a dedicated tuner/preamp format, perfect for integrating turntables and other sources into a high-fidelity setup.
