REGA RB78 - Finally Hear What Your 78s Were Meant to Sound Like!

If you've got a stack of old 78s gathering dust, this is what you need. The Rega RB78 is built for one job - making those vintage records sound the way they should.

Why 78s Need Their Own Cartridge

Here's the thing about 78s. You can't just slap any cartridge on there and expect good results. The grooves are wider. The speed is different. A regular stereo cart will sound terrible and chew up your records. The RB78 uses a proper 78-profile stylus that actually fits in those wider grooves. Better contact means better sound and less wear on your shellac.

Hand-Built in England

Rega builds these using their own coil winding machine. The parallel wound coils use about a third less wire than typical designs. Less wire, more efficient signal transfer. Output runs hot at 6.8 to 7.2mV, so your phono stage won't struggle.

The body is one solid piece of Pocan - a polymer that's harder than aluminum. Most cartridges have five or six joints between the stylus and where it mounts to the headshell. Every joint loses energy. This one has zero joints. Nothing rattling around or soaking up detail.

Rediscover Your Collection

Mounting is standard half-inch spacing with two screws. If your tonearm was made anytime from the 1950s to now, this will fit. Track it at 1.75 grams.

One user on Vinyl Engine put it perfectly - he finally started enjoying his Enrico Caruso recordings. Acoustic recordings that used to distort heavily suddenly made music.

That's really what this is about. Grandpa's Bing Crosby records. Those old jazz 78s you found at an estate sale. Early blues recordings. They were made to be played on proper equipment. This is proper equipment.
