Vandersteen 2Wq's

I am selling my two Vandersteen 2Wq subwoofers. My room is too small to use these so they have to go.

For the 1st subwoofer I am the second owner and the sub is in pretty much the same condition as when I purchased it. It has some small scratches, one noticeable blemish and other slight blemishes on the top (see picture of top) The sock is in good condition as is the back panel. The condition of this sub is 7/10. I also never had the original box (got it on Audiogon and picked it up). I will get a box and pack it with bubble wrap if I have to ship. I will have to calculate shipping after the sale, but it should be close to shipping price for the 2nd sub.

For the 2nd subwoofer I am the original owner. It is also newer. It has no scratches or blemishes, the sock is in good condition as is the back panel. The condition of this sub is 9/10 and I have the original box. 25X22X22 100lbs (sub is 82 lbs., box is the rest).

Each sub comes with a single ended WX-2 crossover and some speaker wire. I will include a balanced M5-HPB with a subwoofer for an additional $400. I am the second owner of this set of two Model M5-HPB Highpass Filters. Condition is 8/10 or better. The M5-HPB can be used with any amp. You just have to set the crossover switches for the specific amp input impedance (You have to use the input impedance for both legs. Balanced connections have two legs so you have to know if the stated amp input impedance is for one or both legs). When I purchased these I was told that there is about 50 hours left on the batteries. The batteries are cheep, but they have to be soldered in. You can do it yourself or send them to Vandersteen and they will replace them for you (costs $70 or $80 last I heard). New batteries are supposed to last for years.

Both subs work fine. Condition for the listing is the average for both subs. I am selling this as a stereo pair at a discount. If no takers I will accept separate offers ($900 for newer sub and $500 for older sub).

The 2Wq gets input from your amplifier, not your preamp. You need a highpass crossover on your amp input (WX-2 or H5-MPB). This rolls off the low frequencies, which are ignored by your main speakers. However, the 2Wq picks up the rolled off low frequencies and uses them as a low level input to drive the subwoofer.  For reasons I do not understand, (you would have to ask Richard) you need a crossover that matches the input impedance of your amplifier. This is my best understanding of how it works, and I do not know how accurate I am. The first page of the manual (which you should be able to read) also talks about how it works. I also have a digital copy of the manual that you should be able to download from the Vandersteen website  I do know that when setup right the bass is wonderful. Very tight and low, and it meshes wonderfully with your speakers.
