THE WHOLE SHEBANG: DAC 3.7/VBL/RefLink USB
The Bel Canto Design e.One series DAC 3.7 with Virtual Battery Linear (i.e., external power supply) is an innovative technological design that produces outstanding and highly musical digital playback.
Music reproduced through this DAC has excellent transparency, detail, inner resolution with a very open sound stage and neutral tonal balance. Bass is powerful, tight, dynamic and very articulate.
Midrange is very open, accurate and possesses a wonderful sense of natural body and texture to voice and instruments through this broad frequency range. High frequencies are extended, open and clear with good sense of air and delicacy.
The DAC also has a superb digital volume control allowing the user to connect it directly to amplifiers with no need for a preamp or linestage. Outputs include RCA or Balanced including ability for setting the output to either fixed or variable.
This particular unit is in excellent condition with current style silver face plate. Also comes with the optional upgraded special VB Reference power cable for connecting the DAC to the VBL. (Cost $495)
Remote control included. Unit is operationally very flexible and provides a range of inputs including Toslink, ST Fiber, SPDIF1/2 (i.e., BNC or AES/ EBU). This is one of the best DACs available today and a tremendous value at my offer price.
The Bel Canto REFLink features a High Speed USB input data connection and several digital audio outputs: coaxial S/PDIF using a BNC connector, balanced AES using an XLR connector and ST Fiber using Bel Canto’s LightLink circuitry. The ST fiber optic is the recommended method as it breaks the “electrical chain” and is noiseless. Sampling rates up to 192 kHz and word lengths up to 24 bit are supported.

I purchased the unit in Dec 2016. You raise an interesting question about the VBL. I've never heard of the VBL (or for that matter its predecessor the VBS) needing replacement.
My friend has the predecessor model DAC 3.5 mk2 and VBS and we swapped out the battery supplies and were surprised at how much better the newer VBL was. Darker background, more organic, enhanced dynamics.
Bel Canto Design is a well capitalized business and I expect them to be around for many years if you need any service. |
