The PV6 was a refinement of the earlier PV2ar design with improved resistor and capacitor selections. The PV6 used upgraded precision low noise resistors and polypropylene capacitors. The result was superior definition and depth of imaging. The phono section was noticeably quieter than earlier designs.

The C-J design philosophy is the culmination of more than 40 years of research and development. Conrad-Johnson products are executed with simple circuits, constructed with the highest-quality custom components. Their products benefit from the use of proprietary components (CJD film capacitors, audio and power transformers), military-grade parts (precision audio resistors), and in-house designed elements (circuit boards, chassis and dress metal)—all sourced from North American vendors. All C-J components are designed and built by hand in the USA.

Refurbished by Conrad-Johnson with latest audio grade Teflon capacitors in the signal path and certified as 100% in spec in 2017. New NOS tubes identical to those used by C-J added in 2023. It has been in continuous service service since purchased in 1984. The power supply was upgraded by C-J in the mid 90's and the capacitor upgrade was done in 2017. The capacitor upgrade cost $1750. I have had zero issues with the unit. Just listen and enjoy. I have changed the tubes every 5 years or so just on general principles, even though it may not be necessary.
