Wayne's Audio proudly present you our first specially designed "Canary" MC moving coil phono cartridge. The sound is beautiful very detailed and musical, very dynamic, the mid-high frequency is delicate, and the low frequency is also very powerful.

Cartridge body is made of Gold-plated aluminum alloy, the coils is 5N OCC Single Crystal Copper and stylus is line-contact nude diamond.

After break in, I've found the Canary to be a very nice sounding cartridge. It performs with powerful low frequencies, balanced mids and sweet but not overbearing highs. First off, I’ve been watching Wayne’s tweaks, clamps and peripherally rings, for sometime and have been captivated and impressed with his build quality. This cart is no exception, excellent build quality. I was originally nervous about the look and style of cantilever and line contact because of how big it is but it tracks really well, probably in part due to its weight even thought it’s the size of t ball bat and super stiff. Tight tolerances in its machining. You might think you’re looking at a Swiss watch or grand seiko Zaratsu hand finish it’s that well built. I don’t think I have to really worry about this stylus breaking, lol! Haven’t quite broken it in yet but it seems to play everything well, from hip hop, classic rawk, jazz, funk, to classical, EDM/downtempo, and everything in between. As a dead head I have a lot of live dead and the live show feeling of being in the mix is there, so it’s definitely my kind of cart. However, nothing too exciting, emotionally engaging or grabbing for me, so it probably won’t make my rotation as it just doesn’t touch that certain emotion in me, if that makes sense? Clear, dead quite, detailed, great dynamics and overall speed along with great tracking just not as refined as I like. We’ll thought out and executed cart. But that’s why we have salt and pepper, so it will definitely be kept as a backup and maybe more someday? Hoping it opens up a little after the break in or another 10-15 hours for me and makes the rotation.

That being said it does compare head to head with carts in thd class he’s looking to charge. I’ve been testing it against a Hana ML LO, Soundsmith Zephyr MKIII, and Van Den Hul Two LO. To which I’d say it was every bit as detailed and fast as the above but lacked that spice I like in particular. I could definitely live with this cart and be happy, and especially so at this special price. Just do it! You can’t lose. It’s definitely worth more than what he’s charging.

I would like to know more about the cart though. Like who’s making the engine, body, cantilever, styli… assembling and voicing them? I can’t imagine you’re machining and making all these parts and piece’s yourself a then assembling them? I don’t see you making anything even at $1400? Whoever it is, they’re doing a bang up job! and I really hope it takes off you and I get to hear another version of the “canary”! Maybe a boron line contact? Maybe not, considering the carts weight. In short, even at his $1400 price it would be worth it and I’d pay it. And I’m betting Steve at VAS would love to fix it or upgrade it for you too!

Fast and secure shipping. The cartridge is incredible at this price point. It easily beats my Ortofon Black. I prefer it over my Soundsmith Carmen as well. The mids and highs are so much cleaner and crisper on the JBL 4435’s with this cart vs. the Black. I plan on ordering several more for my other setups. This is a steal at $500.
