VPI HW-19 mkIII, VPI PLC, Dust cover and SME 309 tonearm and cable

The Mk III features a black acrylic platter incorporating a six-pound lead ring. This acrylic material is closer in composition to vinyl itself, providing more effective absorption of the vibration generated by the moving stylus. The inertia of the platter is four times that of the Jr.'s, resulting in more powerful bass, quieter backgrounds, and greater clarity.

The subchassis is a non-magnetic, 10-gauge stainless steel sheet laminated to a ½" shiny black acrylic top plate and tonearm board. The tonearm board is removable for easy arm changes. This rigid, highly damped subchassis system is then floated on four concentrically wound springs for improved vibration isolation.

The HW-19 Mk III is a four-point suspension, belt-drive turntable. It uses a synchronous, "instrument quality, medium-differential" AC motor and supports both 33 and 45 rpm speeds. Wow and flutter is specified at 0.04%, and speed accuracy is rated at 0.01%.

Dimensions are 21.25" W × 17.5" D × 7.25" H.

The SME 309 is based on the Series V, but features a detachable magnesium headshell, Although a unique one-piece magnesium tonearm is used for the Series 300 Model 309, advanced metal techniques produce fabricated arms of exceptional stiffness. The pivot-to-spindle distance is specified at 215.35mm; with an overhang of 16.97mm, the overall effective length is 232.32mm — a 9-inch tonearm. The SME 309 has an effective mass of 9.5 grams placing it in the medium-mass category — well suited to a wide range of medium- to high-compliance cartridges. Setup is a breeze thanks to the precision-engineered adjusters, which took the grief out of cartridge setup.
