Serial #2 of the Wilson WAMM.
The Holy Grail of High-Fidelity: The Original Wilson WAMM
The Legend of the WAMM The Wilson Audio Modular Monitor (WAMM) is the "Big Bang" of modern high-end audio. Debuting in 1981, it was the first project from David A. Wilson that sought to solve the problem of "time-domain" distortion. By physically moving the speaker modules to align with the listener's ears, Dave Wilson changed the way the world heard music.
Unmatched Rarity & Provenance
This is not just "a" pair of WAMMs; this is THE pair.
A Finite Legacy: Only 36 pairs of the original WAMM were ever painstakingly handcrafted.
The Survivors: Due to the complexity of the internal electronics and the sheer scale of the units, it is estimated that only 31 pairs remain in existence today; five are known to have been lost to time or damage.
Historical Significance: This specific pair is the original set showcased at the 1981 Stereo Show. It is the very pair famously photographed with Dave Wilson and his wife, Sheryl Lee, standing proudly in front of them—the image that launched the Wilson Audio empire.
The Pinnacle of Collectibility: As the Series progressed through to the final Series 7, the WAMM remained the absolute benchmark for luxury audio.
The $220,000 Milestone: By the time the original WAMM production was retired in 1992, the final sets carried an MSRP of $220,000—an unheard-of figure at the time that cemented their status as an "exotic" instrument for the world's most elite collectors.
Investment Grade: Today, the original WAMM is considered the most collectible loudspeaker in history. Owning a pair is akin to owning a vintage Ferrari or a piece of horological history; they are rarely seen on the open market and represent the absolute zenith of a collection.
Exotic Design: Standing nearly 7 feet tall, the WAMM system is a four-tower behemoth (two main arrays and two dedicated subwoofer towers). Every module is adjustable to the microsecond, offering a level of sonic "focus" that many modern speakers still struggle to replicate.
The array and subs are all original. The Braun speakers did not have covers, so the tweeters (which have a sticky coating) were covered in dust and other debris so I had Richard So, the ADS/Braun expert, refresh them, but they are still packed away so no dust can get to them. In addition, when I purchased them, the original WAMM EQ was missing. Ironically, I found another EQ from a WAMM system being parted out. I confirmed with Wilson that all of the EQ units are the same for all WAMM systems.
